About the Cause
After five years out of the business, Cydney Neil, owner and producer of the world renowned Rocky Point Haunted House, has returned to Salt Lake to find herself drawn back to the old Rocky Point location for a second chance to complete her mission.
The final year of the haunted house was cut short by the sale of the building and Cydneys father's failing health. Although Cydney says she would let it go all over again for the time she spent with her father before he passed away in 2011, she never felt she was finished with Rocky Point's legacy.
The final year of the haunt, a second documentary film, as well as books and other projects were cut short. Her 400 member crew were displaced and the community felt the sudden loss of a annual tradition.
Now, Cydney feels like the perfect opportunity has arisen to return to at least reunite her cast and crew and raise the needed funds to tell their amazing story.
In just a few short weeks, Cydney Neil has "thrown together" a "junkie" concept for the perfect fundraiser. This event will raise funds to finish the films documenting her "spirit"ful journey with the Rocky Point Haunted House from beginning to end, as well as the accompanying books, website and merchandise, and at the same time, benefit the haunt's long term partner, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake.
The event, "Junkyard Zombies" is an interactive live game where guests wander through the junkyard set searching for zombies to shoot. The zombies are actually live actors. Guests will be equipped with a laser tag gun that keeps score of each zombie hit.
The junkyard is set behind chain link fences. The zombies are also behind the fence. The guests are only in the fenced areas and therefore cannot get near the props or the actors, thus eliminating any concern over injuries to the guests or actors.
Guests purchase their tickets beforehand and on-line for a certain time slot each night. This will eliminate any long lines or parking congestion.
The guests are in the junkyard for 10 minutes at a time. Their score is immediately recorded in the exit area as well as posted regularly on the event's Facebook page each night. The highest scores of the night win a Junkyard Zombies t-shirt and their names get entered into a drawing for the grand prize at the end of the show.
The grand prize winner will be able to choose between starring roles that have been created for them and actually get to star in their own Zombie movie short! The movie will be shot in the Junkyard Zombie set and the old Rocky Point Haunt building. The winner will also receive a personal zombie make-up session by Chris Hanson! Keep checking the Prize section for updated info.
Cydney has set a goal to raise $100,000 for the Rocky Point Foundation through the "Junkyard Zombie" event as well as an on-line fundraising web site to be established in November, once the event has opened.
